Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know before you download. Don't see your question? Write to us.

Is Lumen Christi really free?

Yes. The full app — today's Mass readings, the Holy Rosary, all ten Catholic Bibles, the hymn library, the Catechism, and every devotion — is completely free. No advertisements. No tracking. No in-app purchases. No premium tier.

Which Bible translations does it include?

Ten Catholic Bibles, in one app — so you can stop downloading a separate app for every translation you love. Six trusted English Catholic editions: RSV-CE, NRSV, NIV 1984, Good News, the Jerusalem Bible, and ESV-CE. Plus African-language Catholic Bibles: Bíbélì Mímọ́ (Yorùbá), Baịbụl Nsọ (Igbo), Littafi Mai Tsarki (Hausa), and Biblia Habari Njema, Toleo la Pamoja (Kiswahili). More African-language Catholic Bibles are in the pipeline.

Where do the daily Mass readings come from?

The readings follow the Roman Catholic Lectionary used at Mass throughout the world — drawn faithfully from approved Catholic publishers (USCCB and equivalent). Word-for-word fidelity matters: the readings in the app are never paraphrased and never AI-generated. The text in the app is the text you'll hear at the ambo.

Why a "liturgically-aware" Verse of the Day?

Many Bible apps surface a generic verse that ignores the Church's calendar. Lumen Christi follows the liturgical season — Advent, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Ordinary Time — so the verse that meets you in the morning matches what the Church is praying.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. Once you've opened the app at least once with internet, the daily readings, hymn lyrics, prayers and the Catechism are cached on your device. You can pray on a long bus ride, in the pew, or in places with no signal.

Can I listen to hymn audio with synchronized lyrics?

Yes. Hundreds of hymns include audio playback with lyrics that scroll in time with the music — designed for choir practice, family prayer, and personal devotion. Filter by Mass part, liturgical season, or occasion. Audio streams from our servers today; full offline downloads are on the roadmap.

Which languages are supported?

Bible and hymn content is available in English, Yorùbá, Igbo, Hausa, Kiswahili, and Latin. African-language Catholic Bibles and hymnals are part of the core product, not a localization layer. The app's interface is currently in English, with more interface languages coming.

Is the Catechism really the full text?

Yes. The complete Catechism of the Catholic Church — all 2,865 numbered paragraphs — is included, fully searchable and beautifully typeset for the way people read on phones. Designed to be engaging for catechumens, the confirmandi, parents teaching children, and anyone seeking real answers from the Church.

Do I need an account to use the app?

No. You can read the daily Mass readings, pray the Rosary, browse hymns, and read the Catechism without creating an account. A free account lets you sync your bookmarks, prayer streaks and favorites across devices.

How do streaks work?

Each time you complete a prayer or devotion, your streak counter increases by one for that day. Miss a day and the counter resets — but your longest streak is always remembered. Streaks are a gentle nudge, not a guilt trip.

Is the content faithful to Catholic teaching?

Yes. Every reading, prayer, devotion and translation in the app comes from sources approved by the Catholic Church. The Catechism is the official text published by the Holy See. When you pray with Lumen Christi, you pray with the whole Church.

How do I get notifications?

On first launch the app will ask permission to send notifications. You can turn these on or off at any time from Settings → Notifications, and choose which devotions you'd like reminders for — the Angelus, the 3 o'clock hour for Divine Mercy, evening prayer, and the Rosary.

What devices does it run on?

iPhone (iOS 14+), iPad, and Android phones (Android 8+). The app is also available as a Progressive Web App at cloud.lumenchristi.app.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account from inside the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. You can also request deletion via this page. All personal data is removed within 30 days.

How can I support the project?

The very best support is your daily prayer for the Lumen Christi team and the Catholics who use the app. You can also share the app with friends, leave a kind review on the App Store or Play Store, or write to [email protected].
